Simplified Training Solutions and AMA Press Collaborate to Meet HIPAA Security Needs for Small Medical Practices

Raleigh, NC – Simplified Training Solutions (STS) announced today that its multimedia-training and compliance package, HIPAA Security Tool Kit™ for small medical practices, is available through a distribution relationship with AMA Press, the book and product publishing division of the American Medical Association.

This is the fifth HIPAA training and compliance package developed by Simplified Training Solutions. The current agreement renews the successful relationship first established with AMA Press in 2002 for the distribution of privacy materials. “AMA Press offers a variety of training formats to our member physicians and nonmember customers. We are pleased to complement our HIPAA product line with this easy-to-understand and use STS multimedia package,” stated John D. Kinney, Director of Marketing, AMA Press.

Healthcare providers must meet the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations for securing all electronic protected health information by April 20, 2005. “HIPAA Security sets up guidelines that protect patients’ health information as well as establish protections for the business side of a medical practice,” stated Dave Kirby, CISSP, CHPS, lead author for the Tool Kit. “The Tool Kit is a practical approach to security for small medical practices,” he added.

The Tool Kit includes a technical guide, a security handbook, a scenario-based training video for staff, and a PowerPoint training presentation, as well as sample security policies and procedures, risk assessment materials and other helpful documents. “The HIPAA Security Tool Kit™ helps a healthcare provider whether they know little about computer and network security or a lot,” commented Jan Karn, CEO, Simplified Training Solutions. “Our products are recognized nationally for their user friendliness and accurate information,” Karn concluded.
